Chico Mendes was a rubber-tapper in the forests of Brasil's Amazonia. Chico opposed  powerful men who were exploiting the forest. He was assassinated at the door of his house on December 22nd 1988 click the picture

Jacqueline Bishop studied at Tulane University the University of New Orleans and the University of Kansas.  Since her first exhibition in 1983 her work has been seen in many parts of the USA. She has taught at Tulane and in Vermont and  worked on projects in England and Scotland   The ideals of Chico Mendes and his love of the Amazonian rainforest are the powerful themes of her latest work
